You have smart home questions, we have... well, smart Answers !
Can I add smart home tech to my existing house without having to tear down walls and add new wiring?
Absolutely! Technologies like Z-Wave work wirelessly, so while you may need to tap into the existing wiring in your home to replace your existing lights and thermostat with smart equivalents, you won't need to add any additional wiring.
How do I know which smart home devices work together?
The easiest way is to look for products with the Z-Wave logo. Z-Wave products are built to be interoperable. That doesn't mean that you're limited to only Z-Wave products, though. Some hubs, like Smart Things and Wink, support several different standards. So your best bet is to check the website for your hub's manufacturer and see which products it supports.
Will smart home technology affect my internet speeds?
Not at all. While most smart home systems rely on your home network for some functions (like remote access and communications between your smart phone and smart hub), the bulk of the home control action takes place on a separate wireless network that doesn't interfere with Wi-Fi at all.
Does smart home technology make your home hackable?
Any technology that uses the internet to communicate can be susceptible to intrusion. However, with Z-Wave, it’s very unlikely. With its 128-bit encryption and advanced security framework, a Z-Wave smart home system is likely more secure than your Wi-Fi network.
This still sounds scary. Isn't this how the machines eventually take over and create Skynet?
Not a chance. While we talk a lot about "smart" home technology, a Z-Wave system isn't really intelligent. The smarts come from the very simple programming you do: for example, "If I unlock the front door, turn on the foyer light." Beyond that, the system can't make its own decisions. You can use it to freak out your friends, though.

Security Systems Can Help Your Business in Unexpected Ways
The use of video surveillance, intrusion detection and access control has been used for decades to help protect businesses.
Today a business owner must efficiently leverage every asset and resource to grow their business. Expanding how you use security systems for different purposes simply takes a little creativity and an open mind.
We will help you jump start your imagination with some ideas that other businesses are using today.
Video Surveillance technology is often used after the fact to investigate a safety or security incident. Today growing businesses are challenged by reduced profit margins, higher operating costs and more competition for customers. You may wonder if your resources and time could be better leveraged to give your company an added competitive advantage.
The good news is it can in many ways. Video can provide an unbiased 24/7perspective on your day-to-day operation and the visual story to help you make smart decisions. A single specialty camera can provide the information you seek about customer focus, traffic flow, process flow, customer reactions and time-based activity that statistical data cannot duplicate.
Similarly, Intrusion detection alarm systems have much more potential than you would think. New technology provides business owners with capabilities to manage their businesses more effectively. Getting real time reports on when your business is open and closed tells you who was first in and last out. This is important management data when analyzing business disciplines, customer service and investigating potential security or safety incidents.
The information collected via an access control system can be much more informative than a simple lock and key solution. Controlling and periodically reviewing the patterns of access to your business can tell you a great deal about your operation, disciplines and perhaps risks to your bottom line profitability. Things like quality control, accountability, and supervision quality get a lot more visibility when you have the data to see how your staff is moving throughout your business.

CCTV systems are primarily used for the purpose of monitoring and recording activities in selected locations. In some cases sensors are used to activate the system and transmit pictures to a remote location. Systems are made up of cameras, sensors, lighting, recording equipment, switching equipment, control equipment, communications equipment, and a means of transmitting pictures to a remote monitoring control room.
Access Control systems
Access systems are designed to allow the right people in. Mechanical locks still do most of the work, and there are push/pull solenoid lock cases for a range of doors, but far more sophisticated systems are now common. The range of access systems available includes door entry systems, smart cards, attendance software and biometrics. Some can be linked to full intelligent building management systems (BMS) and can become part of a modern automated building or ‘smart home’.
Door entry systems can be stand alone or fully integrated with access control, CCTV and automated gate systems. Electrical contractors can easily install most such systems.Other types of door entry system range from sophisticated biometric readers and simple vandal resistant readers (video, audio, or simple keypad entry, ID/smart cards and Radio Frequency Identification - RFID) to locks. Many systems can be integrated with CCTV and alarm systems, and in larger, more complex premises
These recognise people are who are who they say they are, allowing them entry to premises. They include video/voiced door entry, as well as biometrics, which includes fingerprinting, iris / face / voice recognition and other technologies. Biometrics is beginning to revolutionise security but are still generally limited to specialist installers.
Perimeter Security (intrusion detection systems) Perimeter detection typically
Consists of a few detection zones providing information that is collected and aggregated into a control system that monitors the entire perimeter. we provides fiber optic based intrusion detection systems for perimeter protection & pipeline security such as Secure Fence, Secure Link " Detect and locate illegal data tapping and interference with sensitive communications lines" , Secure Pipe Pipeline security system that will detect and locate Third Party Interference (TPI) and illegal tapping activities on oil & gas pipelines in real-time over thousands of kilometers.
Fire Detection & Alarm Systems
Fire detection and alarm systems are designed to alert persons and in certain cases the Fire Authorities (FRS) that a fire incident has been detected. Systems are made up of control and indication panels, smoke, heat and fire detectors, warning and activation devices, communication equipment plus means of transmitting alarm indication to the FRS
Intruder and hold-up alarms are designed to alert persons that an unauthorized entry attempt or hold-up is in progress, or in specific applications automatically call the Police. Systems are typically made up of control and indication panels, sensors, internal and external sounders, communication equipment, plus a means of transmitting an alarm indication to the Police.
Choosing the Best Data Storage Solution
Most businesses have a growing need for more data storage space.
Sooner or later, your business will need more space for data storage. Information in the form of e-mails, documents, presentations, databases, graphics, audio files and spreadsheets is the lifeblood of most companies, and the applications that run and protect your business require a lot of disk space. In addition, a number of trends are fueling our growing hunger for storage:
- Recent government regulations, such as Sarbanes-Oxley, require businesses to maintain and back up a variety of data they might have otherwise deleted.
- For legal reasons, many small businesses are now archiving e-mail messages dating back five or more years.
- The pervasiveness of viruses and spyware requires ever-more vigilant backups--which requires ever-more storage capacity.

OFFICE AUTOMATION CONSIDERATIONS
PEOPLE, TOOLS, AND THE WORKPLACE
Office automation refers to the varied computer machinery and software used to digitally create, collect, store, manipulate, and relay office information needed for accomplishing basic tasks and goals. Raw data storage, electronic transfer, and the management of electronic business information comprise the basic activities of an office automation system.
THE BASICS OF OFFICE AUTOMATION
Generally, there are three basic activities of an office automation system: Data Storage of information, Data Exchange, and Data Management. Within each broad application area, hardware and software combine to fulfill basic functions.
Data Storage usually includes office records and other primary office forms and documents. Data applications involve the capture and editing of files, images, or spreadsheets. Word processing and desktop presentation packages accommodate raw textual and graphical data, while spreadsheet applications provide users with the capacity to engage in the easy manipulation and output of numbers. Image applications allow the capture and editing of visual images.
Desktop publishing adds another dimension to text manipulation. By combining the features of a word processor with advanced page design and layout features, desktop publishing packages have emerged as valuable tools in the creation of newsletters, brochures, and other documents that combine text and photographs, charts, drawings and other graphic images.
Data Exchange While data storage and manipulation is one component of an office automation system, the exchange of that information is another equally important component. Electronic transfer is a general application area that highlights the exchange of information between more than one user or participant. Electronic mail, voice mail, and facsimile are examples of electronic transfer applications. Systems that allow instantaneous or "real time" transfer of information (i.e. online conversations via computer or audio exchange with video capture) are considered electronic sharing systems. Electronic sharing software illustrates the collaborative nature of many office automation systems.
Data Management Office automation systems are also often used to track both short-term and long-term data in the realms of financial plans, workforce allocation plans, marketing expenditures, inventory purchases, and other aspects of business. Task management or scheduling systems monitor and control various projects and activities within the office. Electronic management systems monitor and control office activities and tasks through timelines, resource equations, and electronic scheduling. As in data exchange, group ware and network computer systems are gaining in popularity for data management. Under such arrangements, multiple members of the office environment are provided with access to a variety of information at a central electronic location.
Businesses engaged in launching or upgrading office automation systems must consider a wide variety of factors that can influence the effectiveness of those systems. These factors include budgetary and physical space considerations, changes in communication infrastructure, and other considerations.
Office Automation Equipment
Office automation equipments help improves the speed and efficiency of the tasks performed by the staff.
Office automation products are of great use, they are used to perform various office tasks which may require big human effort or consume time.
Today different types of printers are available quite easily. a printer is a peripheral which produces a text or graphics of documents stored in electronic form. The speed of early printers was measured in units of characters per second. More modern printers are measured in pages per minute. These measures are used primarily as a marketing tool. Thermal paper printers, high-speed laser printers, identity card printers are being used in workplaces for better printing purposes.
Various other automated tools include the paper shredders, fingerprint scanners, banknote counters and attendance checkers.
There is no doubt that technology has evolved in various dimensions leading to the better facilities. There are various online collaboration tools that are being used to improve communication between team members or employees working in various parts of the world. Video conferencing and teleconferencing facilities is the best example. It allows team members from different locations of the world to interact with one another quite easily. Therefore, they save lot of time and human effort in offices.
All office functions including dictation, typing, filing, copying, fax and records management, telephone and telephone switchboard operations, come under this category. Today there are various communication tools which have simplified the process of communication. Desktop sharing and desktop conferencing are some of the communication tools usually used in an office.
The right type of office automation products are essential for the smooth functioning of an office. With a number of automated tools and equipments, it is possible to perform faster and better.
